Today in class students will complete pages 261-262 in their Science Fusion books.  In this activity the books wants the student to go outside and stake out a 1 by 1 meter square and observe the different features in the square.  With the weather as poor as it is instead they will watch a video of a person creating a closed native terrarium.  I will post the link below.

For Set a Purpose:
Answer the question "What do you think you will learn in this activity"  think about why it is important to see what native plants and animals live near you.  You do not need to answer "why did you measure and mark your sample area".


In Think about your procedure:
After watching the video think about why it is important to have a variety of different biotic and abiotic features within the terrarium.  Change the question to "Why do you think your sample site should have a variety of biotic and abiotic features.  


In Record your data:
Use the space below to make a t-chart or two columns.  One side should be labeled biotic and the other abiotic.  While watching the video write down all biotic and abiotic features put inside the terrarium.

Draw Conclusions
In the first question it asks you how did you determine the roles that each living thing played.  Pick two organisms that your wrote in the record your data section.  Write what roles those two organisms play in the terrarium.  


The second question asks to compare with another group.  Cross out this question because you cannot complete it.

Students should complete pages 36-38 in your science fusion book if you did not complete it during class.  If you did not turn pages 36-38 in class please turn it in at the start of class on Tuesday September 7.  This work is a review of lesson 3 (Pages 23-35).
