Earth Day Group Research and Teach AssignmentDue Thursday, April 22
1. Choose an important Earth Day topic to research and teach to the class.  You may choose from the list below or think of your own topic. If you choose a different topic, please get it approved by Mrs. Zeman before you begin.
2. Your job will be to teach the class about the topic you chose.  Your “lesson” should include the following:An introduction to the topic telling us everything about it.  Why is it important? What is happening in the world today, etc.
3. Teach the class: you may make a visual to help explain the information to the class.  You may make a poster or a slideshow or find a video to show. Be sure to tell the class what WE can do to help the situation!.
4. An assignment or activity for the class to do. Examples are a worksheet or a game or a small art project or coloring page.
5. Hand in your LESSON PLAN.  This will tell me exactly what you are going to do when you teach your lesson and what you will use.  Your lesson should be about 10-15 minutes long, including the activity.  
6. You will be assigned a time to present your lesson on Thursday or Friday.

Create a Google Slideshow about one of the climate types listed in Activity 53. Research and include the information on the attached document. Make your presentation interesting with lots of pictures.

To receive 5 extra credit points, create a colorful and informative poster to hang in the school about the problems caused by plastic. Describe reasons we should avoid plastic and, more importantly, describe WAYS families can avoid plastic. Effort will be assessed when applying extra credit points.

Read any recent news article involving Science. The article should be written within the last year.

Write a ½ page summary of the article, make sure to include important names and dates and information. Tell us what it is about.

Write a ½ page personal response. What do you think about the article? Why were you interested in it? What questions do you have?

This week, you should work on your list of materials and procedure so that you will be prepared to conduct your experiment over the holidays. You will also need a data chart to collect your data as you perform your project. Once you have these things, you may begin your project anytime you like. In order to do your science fair project over Christmas break, you need to have your materials and procedure, and a data chart to collect your data. Please create these things on a google doc and submit them here. These will go into your google slides for your final presentation.

Decide which building site (Green Hill, Delta Marsh, or Seaside Cliff) you think we should choose for the new buildings in Boomtown. Create a new Google Doc and write 3 paragraphs about the site. The paragraphs should include the following information:
1. Paragraph 1: Identify which site you choose. Give three pieces of EVIDENCE that supports why this is a good place for us to build.
2. Paragraph 2: Identify at least 2 TRADE-OFFS, or things that are not good about the site. these are problems that may arise at this site.
3. Think of some SOLUTIONS (one for each problem) to the trade-offs, ways we can "fix" or at least help the problems at the site you chose.
Your paragraphs should be double spaced and the font should not be larger than 14. Use a DARK color font. Put a heading at the top of the page and submit your essay through Google Classroom.

Complete this worksheet while reading Activity 29 in your text. We will do this in class tomorrow, if it is not finished in class, it is due Monday.

We are starting Unit C, Erosion and Deposition. You need to click on this "book" online instead of the Rocks and Minerals book. Read Activity 24, look at the pictures and fill in the worksheet. On a separate Google Doc, answer Analysis Questions #1-4.

Go to the final section of the interactive website attached titled "Test Your Skills". Take the test and take a screenshot of your score.

Read the Introduction and complete the interactive section titled "Types of Rocks". In this section, there is a quiz called "Identify Rock Types". Take the quiz (you may take it more than once) and take a screen shot of your score and submit it.

Activity 19 - Using your sticky notes, make a concept map using the words on page B-36, Analysis Question 4. Make connecting lines and write connecting words on the lines, then write 3 good sentences about your concept map.

Read pages B-32 - B-35 in your text. Complete the table as you read.

Read Activity 15 in your book. On the worksheet, check the statements that reflect what the reading states. Instructions are also on the worksheet.

Upload your Google Slides presentation about the plague, epidemic, or pandemic that you researched.

Here are some suggested questions to think about after you watch the mini-lesson:

1. How do germs get inside your body?

2. What did this lesson make you curious about? What other questions do you have about germs?

Assignment: You can’t see germs because they’re so tiny. Imagine if you were the size of a germ. You could float through the air in a drop of water. You could travel anywhere and no one would see you. Where would you go? What would it be like? Write a story or draw a picture of what your day would be like if you were the size of a germ. You may use Google Docs or paper. If you are remote and you use paper, scan it or take a picture and upload it into this Google Classroom.
