Music

Here is some information about the music program at QAS. The students in grades K-6 attend music class one day each week for 40/45 minutes. Musical concepts such as rhythm, melody, harmony, form and tone color, are taught using a variety of techniques including singing, playing instruments, listening, and moving. The students in grades 7 & 8 will attend music in letter groupings and will be instructed in ukulele, basic piano skills using the Piano Maestro app on  the iPad, GarageBand, History of the Beatles, History of Music in Films and Making a Music Video.  The class offerings will vary by grade level.

The music room is equipped with Orff instruments, small percussion instruments and boomwhackers  for the students to play and reinforce concepts that are being taught. Playing, singing, listening and moving are very important to the musical development of the students. Students in grades 4 & 5 learn to play the recorder. Technology is used to enhance the music learning experience. I am fortunate to have 30 iPads to use in the music class. Specific apps are used for note drilling, rhythm reading, research, and learning basic piano skills to name a few. All students in grades K-8 use the iPads depending on the activity.  The music room is also equipped with Apple TV and an interactive whiteboard.
