Specials Friday


What? Fridays will be devoted to our Specialty classes: Spanish, STEM, Art, Music, P.E


When? 4-24; *; 5-8; 5-15; 5-22; 5-29  



How does this work? Students will not be assigned core-content e-learning on Specials Friday. INSTEAD, students will pick two Specials classes to focus on that day. They should visit the teacher’s blog page in order to complete activities provided there and follow the teacher’s directions for submitting the work, if applicable. The next “Specials Friday” they will choose different Specialty subjects so that they complete a range of activities. By May 29, they should have submitted two (or more) Specials activities for each subject.


Why? Queen of All Saints appreciates the whole child and offers specialty classes to promote Fine Arts, creativity, critical thinking, physical movement, etc. We want to provide time for our students to enjoy these offerings of our Specials teachers. Have fun and enjoy!


Should I only do Specials’ activities on Fridays now?  You are welcome to visit the teacher blog pages and work on Specials activities anytime. Students in Grades 6, 7, and 8 should follow Mrs. Acevedo’s blog and complete activities throughout the week.


Can kids in the same family work on the same activities? YES! There are many activities that could be done cooperatively or simultaneously. For example, pick a P.E. activity that works for all kids and do it together. Or choose an art project that all kids could do; it might be fun to see how different family members create different versions of the same project.


Will students receive a grade for Specials classes on their report cards? YES. Teachers will continue with the same evaluation system, so please make sure you follow the teacher’s direction about submitting the work.

Since our grade level field trip to Legoland had to be cancelled I thought we should have a day dedicated to creating!

Wednesday, May 6th
  • Students should be submitting their activities and work through Seesaw and RAZ kids each day.
  • Parents if you choose to print out any PDF's and have your child do them with paper and pencil instead of the PDF version on Seesaw please submit any assignments and especially tests by taking a picture or scan and e-mail me or post on Seesaw.
  • It's important that I am seeing students work to help me assess and adjust student's learning objectives and goals.  
Religion- Daily prayer and Caring Choice activity attached below and on Seesaw
 
Writer's workshop- Unit on Writing nonfiction books- Please see attached video or have your child watch on Seesaw before starting their writing today.
 
Reading/Daily 5- 
Read to Self- independent reading for 12 minutes 
Read to Someone (if possible)- 12 minutes- I love when students record themselves reading through Seesaw-if they wanna share it with a friend just have them say so in the video and I'll pass it along : )
Word work- See Seesaw for activities
Listen to Reading- at least 12 minutes on Epic or StorylineOnline.  Quicklinks to Log in pages are on my class website- www.mrjurasclass.weebly.com
(12 minute time frame is what we typically had daily for each station in school- please adjust accordingly based on your child's stamina)
 
Meet with Teacher- (On days where your child meets with me for guided reading on Zoom, they do not have to do the following unless they are being asked to just finish reading a book by our next session)-  Students should log onto RAZ Kids and choose one of the 4 books to read by clicking My Assignments and once finished students should take the quiz to check their comprehension.
  • Parents please allow your child to reread the book if needed on the same day or another day to feel prepared to answer the questions.
  • Students should be able to complete at least 2 out of the 4 books along with the questions by Thursday.
  • On Thursday students will record themselves reading a passage and then retelling what they read.
Parents please know I have differentiated each students assignments to meet your child's reading needs.

I hope this helps set up the expectations and how to navigate the resources.  Students should log onto RAZ Kids and click on Flight Check to record themselves reading a passage aloud and then retelling/summarizing what they read.
